Karaköy: The Waterfront District
Karaköy, located near the Galata Bridge, has become one of Istanbul’s trendiest districts in recent years: featuring concept cafés, designer boutiques, contemporary art galleries, and restaurants with views of the Bosphorus. Nearby are the Galata Tower and the uphill walk to the Galata area with its narrow, charming streets.
Karaköy is doubly convenient from a logistics perspective: it is within easy reach of the tram line heading toward Sultanahmet and the ferry terminal, from where boats depart to the Asian side — including Kadıköy, which can be reached in around 20 minutes. The atmosphere here is more “grown-up” and stylish than in Taksim, but without the intense nightlife of its pedestrian streets.
